Knownet is a research and development SME founded in 2000 and based in Wales in the UK. It brings together researchers and software developers from the UK, Germany, France and Canada. Knownet are working in the research and development of theories, architectures and applications for the use of software to support collaborative work and learning. Knownet are particularly concerned with the use of ICT for communication and with how knowledge is shared and developed through distributed communities of practice. They are also researching different forms of work organisation for software development that will allow users to provide iterative feedback through the development process. Knownet are presently co-ordinators of the Leonardo da Vinci project, ICT and SMEs, which is examining the use of ICT for learning and knowledge creations in SMEs. They are also contractors for CEDEFOP and the European Commission and have close working links with the University of Bremen, the University of Warwick, the University of London and the British Library.

Knownet have worked with the University of Warwick on the development of ICT platforms to support careers researchers and practitioners in the UK.

Knownet will provide the software platform and tools for communication and knowledge sharing and development.
