KETHEA, NGO in special consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), is the first organization set up in Greece (Law 1729/87) for the purposes of treatment, prevention, professional training and research in the field of drug addiction. KETHEA currently operates a nation-wide network of services and is one of the principal implementation bodies of the National Action Plan on Drugs (2002-2006). All services are provided free of charge; they are based on the drug-free model of therapeutic communities and are designed to meet the needs of users with different profiles: adults, adolescents, prisoners, addicted mothers, migrants, etc.KETHEA is board member of World Federation of Therapeutic Communities (WFTC), of European Federation of Therapeutic Communities (EFTC) and of International Federation of Non-Government Organisations for the Prevention of Drug and Substance Abuse (IFNGO). It is a member of the International Council on Alcohol and Addictions (ICAA), of the Prevention Network RADAR and a member of the forum of Family Therapy Training Institutes of European Family Therapy Association (EFTA). KETHEA is also associated with the UN Public Information Department aiming at providing information to large sectors of the society regarding drug related issues.
